How to Make Your Own Samhain Mist
Share
Create your own Samhain Home Mist — a warm, spiced autumnal blend inspired by the ancient turning of the seasons.
With fragrant bay leaf, cinnamon, clove, citrus, star anise and nutmeg, this evocative blend fills your home with a rich, warming aroma and a touch of ritual magic.
Perfect for creating a cosy, snug atmosphere as the days grow shorter and the nights draw in, it sets the ideal ambience for celebrating Samhain and welcoming the changing season.
And, for those who aren’t quite so fond of the annual spider invasion, the blend’s strong aromatic ingredients may also help make your home a little less inviting to our eight-legged visitors.
How to make your Samhain mist
Ingredients
- Bay Leaf
- Cinnamon
- Clove
- Orange or Lemon peel
- Star Anise
- Nutmeg
The citrus keeps it bright, while cinnamon, clove, and star anise give it the darker, warming character you'd associate with late autumn and Samhain. Bay leaf adds an earthy, herbal note that makes it feel less like a generic Christmas fragrance.
Method
- Put the cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, orange peel, lemon peel and star anise into a small saucepan.
- Bring gently to a simmer and let it infuse for 15–20 minutes. Don't boil vigorously.
- Strain it very thoroughly through a fine sieve or coffee filter so there are no particles left.
- Put into a bottle and spray
Because this is a water-based botanical spray, it can spoil relatively quickly. Keep it refrigerated
Bring a little Samhain atmosphere home
Samhain is less about creating something perfect and more about noticing the threshold: harvest giving way to winter, brightness giving way to long evenings, memory sitting beside hope.
